From 1988-2006 I worked full time painting murals for clients in Australia and overseas by myself and as part of specialized mural teams for DIEMME where we worked on large canvases that were shipped overseas. One one job I spent 5 weeks in Auckland with two other muralists and a group of paint finish specialists on a house at Herne Bay for the Sultan of Brunei's brother. .. yet to scan images to add to web site.
Examples of earlier murals can be seen at the Old Vienna Cafe, Queen Victoria Building, Arts Hotel, Darlinghurst and in North Sydney Library. The deadline for the five copy Gustav Klimt paintings was 15 days from sketching, gilding, painting to varnishing, for this job Gregory Smith designed the other decorative elements while I assisted Lisa Stack to print & hand paint the wallpaper strips. The pool side mural based on a 1920's linocut 6m x 4m had a 21 day deadline regardless of weather. The Luna Park mural was done for Advertising Partners when they were at Millers Point.
In the last few years I have worked on some special commissions while mainly working as a Color/ Material Consultant for architects. The most recent was in the Entrance Lobby to the Australian Natural Therapies Campus in Fouveaux Street, January 2011. I incorporated their Logo and images of their Schools into a tree form, for this job I also changed the color scheme throughout the school's six floors and organized decorative branding logo stencils to be put up throughout the building.
Each mural design is different and works in with the clients brief and needs. The second image is from a bathroom where the designer wanted a classical dreamy landscape that she could look at when she bathed. A French chandelier and travertine tiles complemented the space.
The third image is part of one wall of three walls 42 metres long, painted around a swimming pool at Watsons Bay. The wall was already painted in a Murobond paint and the client had a favourite poem that I wrote on the walls with a fanciful, surrealist imagery that spoke of the sea without repeating it.
